EBWS: What did you do after EBWS? (e.g. where did you go to school, etc.)
Abbey: I went to high school at Head-Royce, and then I went to college at UC Davis. After graduating from UC Davis, I did an internship at the European Parliament in Brussels and another internship at Centro Legal de la Raza in Oakland. After these internships, I went to law school at NYU.
EBWS: What are you doing now? And what do you love about it?
Abbey: I’m a practicing attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in San Francisco. I am in the general litigation group, and focus on privacy and cybersecurity. I love being constantly challenged by novel legal issues.
EBWS: Can you tell me something about your work that few people know?
Abbey: The area of privacy and cybersecurity is particularly exciting since technology is rapidly evolving, and I am always confronting new questions about the privacy implications of such technological developments.
EBWS: How would you say that your EBWS education has helped you in achieving your goals?
Abbey: My EBWS education helped prepare me to think creatively about solutions to new problems. In my practice area, there are often not clear answers to legal questions since the issues are so new and are constantly evolving. It is critical to be able to think outside the box in helping clients assess risk and push for certain developments in the law.
