We have been joined together by fate
To unfold powers which will serve good creative work.
Wisdom itself will teach us as we walk on the soul’s path
That the greatest things can be achieved
When souls who give each other certainty of spirit
Unite in work toward the healing of the world in good faith.

In this newsletter:

  2. Enrollment Contracts
  3. Work Day: Children Welcome! Plant and Gift Scale!
  4. Social Media Campaign

School Schedule

The school calendar is taking shape!

The first day of school will be September 1st
The last day will be June 10th

Exact schedule with holidays and in-service days, etc. is forthcoming.

Preschool day ends at 12:45 (same as previous years)
Kindergarten day ends at 1 (same as previous years; there will be aftercare)
1st and 2nd grades end at 2
3rd through 5th grades end at 3

Early Dismissal
There will be 1 day each week where 3rd-5thgrades end at 2 for an early day to allow for a staff meeting, but exactly what day that will be in the week is TBD. Most likely it will not be Friday, as in the past, so that teachers do not end their week with a long day.

Dropoff
Each class will have their own staggered drop off sometime between 8:15-8:45 and those exact times and locations (walking up K path, walking up stairs, dropped off on basketball courts, etc.) are still in development.

Aftercare
The plan is to have an aftercare offering for anyone who needs it but exactly how that will transpire is still TBD.

Enrollment Contracts

Please keep an eye out for an enrollment contract, coming next week via email. There will be opportunities to sign enrollment contracts after drop off next Wednesday through Friday, with refreshments included, and at the Community Work Day.

Work Day: Children Welcome! Plant and Gift Sale!

As the next First Sunday falls on Easter, the community work day for April will be Saturday, April 3, from 10am-3pm. The Community and Resource Development (CaRD) Circle will hold a sale of plants and Easter gifts, and will take preorders for the exquisite Maypole peg doll sets crafted by parent Haley Pollock. The Maypole set can also be preordered by emailing haley@wildcatcanyon.org.

The work day in April will continue the focus on general housekeeping, cleaning classroom yards, replenishing sand boxes, tree planting and other landscaping, gutter cleaning, and potentially some painting.

If anyone is willing to come who has the following specialized skills, we can accomplish more! We are looking for people with experience in plumbing, irrigation, and HVAC.

Children will be welcome, but will need to wear masks. If a parent is unable to monitor a child who needs assistance with mask wearing, it might be advisable for that child to remain at home.

Social Media Campaign

The Communications Circle has developed a sample posting for social media, and asks all parents in the community to help spread the news about our school and its new beginnings. Word of mouth is the best outreach. Below is the post text, and the image below can be downloaded from this file.

We have also posted these images on the Wildcat Canyon Community School Facebook and Instagram pages; please feel free to repost.

Wildcat Canyon Community School, a restructure of the East Bay Waldorf School, is a new parent/teacher-led collective offering pre-K through 5th grade. WCCS is dedicated to a progressive, developmental curriculum honoring the child’s natural phases of learning. Our method ignites the spark of individuality in each child, developing a lifelong commitment to learning, creativity, and social responsibility.

These values flourish over a beautiful 91-acre campus adjacent to Wildcat Canyon in El Sobrante. This allows for a heavy focus on outdoor education, play, and a working exploration of Earth’s elements.

WCCS offers sliding-scale tuition and welcomes all families to apply.

In celebrating the spiritual nature of all human beings, we teach empathy and common humanity to forward our mission of social, racial, and land justice.
