Wildcat Canyon Community School is a new initiative begun by parents and teachers from East Bay Waldorf School, who kept a learning community intact for the 2020/21 school year after the closure of EBWS during the pandemic. Independently, the teachers and parents formed learning pods, meeting in parks and backyards. Other families spent the year homeschooling or found other learning environments, but considered themselves an ongoing part of the EBWS community.
When it came time to re-envision the school’s reopening, we realized that we had a cooperative, non-hierarchical model which emerged organically during the shutdown, and could expand on it as we return to campus.
